US Congressman. He graduated from Harvard University in 1794, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1797 and proceeded to practice law in Amherst, New Hampshire. He served as register of probate for Hillsborough County, (1798-1807). In 1815, he was elected as a Federalist to the Fourteenth Congress, serving until 1817. Declining to be a candidate for re-nomination, he served as a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, (1823-39). He then was one of the founders of the Hillsborough County Agricultural Society, president of the board of directors of the Farmers' Bank and practiced law until his death at age 79.
