U.S. Congressman. He attended Hendrix College, graduated from the law department of the University of Arkansas, in 1906, was admitted to the bar and opened a private law practice in Lonoke, Arkansas. He was a member of the Arkansas State House of Representatives, in 1907 and prosecuting attorney of the seventeenth judicial district of Arkansas, (1912-16). In 1923, he was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-eighth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of U.S. Representative Lewis E. Sawyer, reelected to the Sixty-ninth and Seventieth Congresses, serving until 1929. An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law until his death.
