U.S. Congressman. Learning the printer’s trade, he moved to Louisiana, in 1849, established the Minden Herald, Mayor of Minden, (1855-56) and then established the Homer Iliad in 1859. He was a member of the Louisiana State constitutional convention in 1867 and also county judge of Claiborne Parish. In 1868, upon the readmission of the State of Louisiana to representation was elected as a Republican to the Fortieth Congress, serving until 1869. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was a member of the Louisiana State Senate, (1874-78). Returning to Arkansas, he published the Arkansas Republican, (1881-84) and the Free South, (1885-92).
