Edward Herndon, 80, of the Woodsavage convalescent home, 1625 E. Edwards St., died at 5:45 a.m. yesterday at the nursing home. He had been in failing health for a number of years.

Mr. Herndon was the grandson of William H. Herndon, who was Abraham Lincoln's law partner for about 20 years. He had been a teamster in the Springfield brickyards before retiring more than 20 years ago.

He is survived by two sons, Jesse and William and a daughter Mrs. Bessie Miller, all of city; a sister Mrs. Annie Johnson and a brother, Grover Herndon, both of Los Angeles, Calif., and an aunt, Mrs. Mollie Ralston, of city.

Remains are at O'Donnell Funeral Home where friends may call from 7 to 10 p.m. today and until time of services tomorrow. Services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. Rev. H. M. Hildebrandt will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
