U.S. Congressman. At the advent of the Civil War, he was attending Oakland College in 1861, when he enlisted in the Confederate Army. He served as a Private in a battery of Light Artillery with the Armies of Mississippi and Tennessee. After the war, he became successful in agricultural pursuits, entered politics and was a member of the Mississippi State House of Representatives, (1892-94). In 1895, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-fourth Congress, serving until 1897. After leaving Congress, he engaged in the real estate and insurance business, until his death.
