Minnesota Governor. After immigrating to the United States, he settled in Nebraska and later moved to Minnesota. He graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College, in 1895, studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1898. He was a member of the Minnesota State Senate, (1902-06) and served as Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota, (1906-09). In 1909, upon the death of Governor John A. Johnson, he was appointed as a Republican the 17th Governor of Minnesota, serving until 1915. While in office, a bill was initiated and legislation was approved that authorized direct primaries for all state officials. After his term, he retired from political life and engaged in the real estate. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
