Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. He srved in the Civil War as Lieutenant Colonel and commander of the 47th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers on March 13, 1865 for "maritorious services". When he died in 1928 he was one of the few remaining Union Brevet Generals from the Civil War.
