U.S. Congressman. With the advent of World War I, he joined and served in the U.S. Army overseas (1917-19). After the war he worked in various factories as a foreman (1919-32), and attended the Y.M.C.A. night school of automobile engineering (1930-31). He was president of the Canton City Council Ohio (1928-33), a delegate to the Republican State conventions (1932-34), and Mayor of Canton, Ohio (1935-38). In 1939, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-sixth Congress, serving until 1941. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he served as Ohio State tax examiner, for Canton (1941-42), was director of Stark County Board of Elections (1942-70), and as president of the Ohio Association of Election Officials.
