U.S. Congressman. Born in Woodruff, Wisconsin, he served as a Private in Battery D, 11th Field Artillery, United States Army, during World War I. After the war, he graduated from the law department of Marquette University, in 1923, was admitted to the bar and commenced the practice of law in Wausau, Wisconsin. He was delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1928 and district attorney of Marathon County, (1926-31). In 1931, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-second and Seventy-third Congresses and as a Progressive to the Seventy-fourth and Seventy-fifth Congresses, serving until 1939. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he served as circuit judge of the sixteenth judicial circuit of Wisconsin, (1942, 45, 51, 57, 63-70) and as circuit judge in Milwaukee County, (1970-74). He died at age 81 in Wausau, Wisconsin. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
