Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Corporal in the Union Army in Company I, 188th Pennsylvania Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on September 29, 1864 at Fort Harrison, Virginia. His citation reads "First to plant the colors of his State on the fortifications."
