"Mrs. Rachael Painter [Paynter] Davies, died in Washington, Monday, November 28 [1915]. She lived in Madison several years with her son and also made his home her's at the national capital.
Mrs. Davies was 69 years old, having been born in 1846 at Carnovan, Wales. She studied for the ministry and was ordained in the Congregational church while yet in Wales. She came to the United States in 1870 and for some two years preached in and around Philadelphia mostly at Welsh evangelist meetings in the mining district. In 1872 she was married to the late Edward Davies, himself also of Welsh birth, a native of Tregaren. They located at Watertown soon after and that place became their home for thirty-five years and round about in Welsh communities she continued her evangelical work. At one time, she held a regular charge at Ixonia, Jefferson County. Perhaps the Wisconsin woman was so widely known among the Welsh. Several times Mrs. Davies visited Wales and two years ago fell so ill there that her son had to go over and accompany her home.
Residents of Watertown where ever they go have good, kind words to say of the Davies family."
Iowa County Democrat, Mineral Point, WI, Thur, 9 Dec 1915, (p 1/c3)
