U.S. Congressman. He graduated from University of Maine, from the University of Maine Law School, was admitted to the bar in 1911 and commenced the practice of law in Portland, Maine. He was clerk of the United States District Court of Maine, (1917-20). In 1941, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-seventh Congress and to the next five succeeding Congresses, serving until his death at age 61.
