PVT Beals, 737th Tank Battalion, died of wounds on 9/19/44 at the 59th Field Hospital at Andilly, France. His wounds were due to "...the explosion of a shell in the tank in which he was riding as a crew member...".∼William was seriously wounded in action in France on Sept 17, and died of his injuries two days later at the 59th Field Hospital in France. He was a member of the U.S. Army 735th Tank Battalion. William entered the Army in March, 1943, trained at Camp Hood, Texas, Camp White, Oregon, and Ft. Lewis, Washington, and went overseas to England in February, 1944. William was buried on 20 Sept. 1944 in the U.S. Military Cemetery No. 1 in Andilly, France in grave number 281, row number 12, plot number E with a Cross Marker. His body was returned to his mother for burial in Grant in 1948.
