This is my maternal grandfather, whom I only met once about 1960. We just recently found where and when he died. The death certificate has his name listed as George Francis Smith, as does the cemetery records,an obvious error. The death certificate confirmed his identity with the correct parents, James Arthur Smith and Mary Knight, and place of birth, and confirmed that this is indeed my grandfather. Frank Smith was the husband of Ruth Coatney. They married at 18 and 15 years old. He is the father of Irene, Velma, Doris, Jim, Mary, Betty, Winona, and Frankie. His paternal grandparents were George Washington Smith and Mary Elizabeth Elkins Smith, and maternal grandparents were David Benjamin Franklin Knight and Mary Dianna Pruitt. He was named for both his grandfathers.

Aunt Winona sent me both of these pictures. I cannot believe how much my brother Steve looks like Frank!

Thank you for the photo of the gravestone, Jim! Both gravestone photos by Jim Pingrey.
