WEDGEFIELD -- William Douglas Brewer, age 70, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at Palmetto Health Baptist in Columbia, following an extended illness.
Born in Anderson County, Mr. Brewer was the son of the late William Sutton and Anabel Logan Brewer. He was twice married. Mr. Brewer grew up in Walhalla. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951, serving for six years during the Korean War. He worked as a firefighter and crash rescuer for Lockheed of Greenville for a number of years. He later moved to Wedgefield, making a career as a Civil Service employee at Shaw Air Force Base, working as a firefighter and crash rescuer for Shaw AFB and Poinsett Bombing Range until his retirement.

Survivors include: a daughter and grandson, Karen LeAnna Brewer and William Elijah Brewer of Clayton, Ga.; two sons, Matthew Douglas Brewer of Tiger, Ga., and John Douglas Brewer of Virginia; a sister, Elizabeth Cox of Seneca; a nephew, Terry Cox of Easley; and a niece, Phyllis Kesler.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of Bullock Funeral Home. Burial with full military honors will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort.

The family will receive friends following the service at Bullock Funeral Home.
