U.S. Congressman. During the Revolutionary War he served in the New York State Militia. After the war, he was appointed a Deputy Sheriff in Ulster County in 1793, was a member of the New York State Assembly, (1798-1800) and was Sheriff of Orange County, (1803-05). In 1805, he was elected as a Republican to the Ninth and Tenth Congresses, serving until 1809. After his term, he was a member of the New York State Assembly, (1812-13), judge of the court of common pleas for Orange County, (1815-18) and again served in the New York State Assembly, in 1819. At the time of his death at age 63, he was Town Supervisor of Montgomery, New York.
