Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Sergeant in the Union Army in Company H, 6th Maine Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on November 7, 1863 at Rappahannock Station, Virginia. His citation reads "Capture of flag of 8th Louisiana (C.S.A.) in a hand-to-hand struggle with the color bearer."
