Living with her husband on the Bowring Ranch in Merriman, Nebraska, she was vice chairwoman of the Nebraska Republican Central Committee, (1946-54) and director of the Women’s Division of the Republican Party in Nebraska, (1946-54). In April 1954, he was appointed by Governor Robert B. Crosby as a Republican to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Dwight Palmer Griswold, serving until November 1954. Not a candidate for election, she was a member of the Board of Parole, Department of Justice, (1956-64). After leaving politics, she remained active on her ranch until her death at age 92.
