U.S. Senator. He graduated from the preparatory department of Drury College in 1890, from Princeton University in 1894, from the Washington University Law School, in 1897, was admitted to the bar in 1897 and commenced to practice law in St. Louis, Missouri. He was the judge of the circuit court of St. Louis City, (1906-12) and a delegate at large to the Missouri constitutional conventions, (1922-23). In 1925, he was elected as a Republican to the U.S. Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Selden P. Spencer, serving until 1926. An unsuccessful candidate for election, he was chairman, Committee to Audit and Control the Contingent Expenses and a member of the Committee on Private Land Claims.
