Suggested bio addition:

STEPHEN HOPKINS, WITH SOME ACCOUNT OF THE DESCENDANTS OF JOSHUA HOPKINS, HIS GRANDSON, Pg 7, states that Joshua Hopkins settled Eastham in that part now Orleans. He occupied a house standing near or on the spot where the house stands that was occupied by the late Isaac Seabury, on the westerly side of the road leading to Tonset, which was without doubt his father's house spot. The location of his house has been handed down by his descendants, and there can be no doubt of their correctness. He inherited a large estate from his father in Hartwick, Eastham and Paomet, now Truro. He added much to his acres by purchase. But few men of his township had more acres of upland and meadow. He was one of the nine men in 1711 who purchased of the Quasons, all of their unsold land within the limits of the present town of Harwich. These Indians were sons and daughters of the old Indian sachem, John Quason of Monomoy, whose sachemdom extended over the greater part of Harwich.

With his 'loving friend', Samuel Mayo of Eastham, Mr Hopkins in 1713 purchased of the Sipsons, Indians, all of their 'sedge flats' around the north and west shores of Pleasant bay, and flats around Sipson's island. The purchase was known as the 'seven share purchase'.

He bought and sold land for many years. He held no office of importance in Eastham. He was a man of industry, energy and judgment.

MAYFLOWER FAMILIES THROUGH FIVE GENERATIONS, Vol 6 - Stephen Hopkins, Pg 31-32, states that Joshua Hopkins was named in the 1682 will of his father Giles Hopkins. Joshua was a shoemaker and farmer, resident on the east side of Town Cove at Eastham. He was admitted freeman there 3 Jun 1690. Josiah Paine, Cape Cod historian, described Joshua as a very wealthy man, owning land in Eastham, Harwich and Chatham.

The will of Joshua Hopkins of Eastham, dated 14 May 1734 and proved 31 Aug 1738, called him a widower and old in age. He mentioned sons Elisha and Joshua; daughters Lydia Hopkins and Phebe Bixbe; grandson Joseph Bixby; daughter Hannah Paine; grandsons Ebenezer Pain, John Taylor and Edward Taylor, and daughters Abigail Taylor and Mary Smith.
