Arriving in Vietnam Andy was assigned to Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division.
The battalion was participating in Operation New York in the vicinity of Phu Thua Peninsula and 7
kilometers east of Phu Bai Airfield. Fox Company was engaged by hostile forces and Andy died as a result of a gunshot wound to the neck area from hostile rifle fire.
