REV. J. M. BOAL'S CAREER IS ENDED
Presbytery's Oldest Divine Passes Away
Organized Second Church and Served in Ministry for Sixty-Five Years. Five Children Survive Decedent
Rev. John Mills Boal, aged 89 years, the oldest clergyman in the Los Angeles Presbytery, passed away at 5 o'clock yesterday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Bradbeer, 1026 Blaine street.
Rev. Mr. Boal had been in his usual health, but upon retiring Saturday evening complained of feeling badly. He was subject to stomach trouble and the family remained up with him until about 2 a.m., when he fell into a quiet slumber, from which he never awakened.
Rev. Mr. Boal had not been preaching for a number of years.
He came to Los Angeles in 1882, organizing and building the Second Presbyterian church, East Los Angeles. He was pastor of this church about five years, following which he did mission work for some of the poorer churches.
While on a visit with his wife to Ashland, Ky., in 1897, the latter passed away at that place.
Rev. Mr. Boal was a graduate of Miami university, Cincinnati, and had been in the ministry over sixty-five years.
Rev. Mr. Boal is survived by five children, Dr. Robert H. Boal, James R. Boal, Mrs. George Bradbeer, all of Los Angeles; Dr. J. Mills Boal of La Jolla, and Mrs. Robert Peebles of Ashland, Ky.
The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, from the Immanuel Presbyterian church, Dr. Hugh K. Walker, the pastor, officiating, assisted by the city clergy.
The interment will be at Rosedale cemetery.
