U.S. Congressman. After graduating from the University of Alabama, in 1854, he studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1855 and commenced to practice law in Talladega, Alabama. During the Civil War, he served in the Confederate Army as a Major in the 10th Regiment, Alabama Infantry and later as a Lieutenant Colonel in command of the 13th Regiment, Alabama Infantry. After the war, he was a member of the Alabama State House of Representatives, (1871-72) and was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-fourth Congress, serving (1875-77). Not a candidate for re-nomination, he continued the practice of law until his death at age 48.
