Son of John Stevens & Mary Elizabeth Stewart Gilstrap; husband of Gladys Bolding Gilstrap.

Died of injuries sustained in an automobile accident at the age of 42. Also killed in this three-vehicle accident were Eva Stephens Durham and Charles R. Parnell.

His obituary stated he was born in Pickens and had spent most of his life in Liberty.

Survived by his wife; his parents; two sons, Jimmy Gilstrap and Kenneth Gilstrap, both of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Welborn and Mrs. Elvira Collins, both of Liberty; and three brothers, Willie Gilstrap and Robert Gilstrap, both of Easley, and Henry Gilstrap of Sunset.

Funeral services: Tuesday, May 12, 1953, Calumet Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. H.W. Ayres and Rev. A.M. Bryant.

Burial: Gantt Memorial Park

Pallbearers: Jess Tant, Woodrow Sanders, "Brother" Rogers, Bailey Simpson, Ernest Bolding, and G.T. Bolding.

Honorary Escort: the Men's Bible Class of Calumet Baptist Church, also Bruce Smith, Claude Dodson, Rube Medlock, Hayward Medlock, Bill Vaughn, Grady Owen, Alfred Smith, Alfred Hughes, and Walter Durham.

As was still the custom of the day, his remains were returned to the family home for visitation until the time of the funeral.
