Eleizer Griffin was born in 1828 in the village of Axmouth, in the County of Devon, near the sea coast in southwestern England to James Griffin and Eleanor Searns. His family were farmers.

28 Sep 1828, Eleizer was Baptized in the Parish of Axmouth by Curate S. P. Mansel.

VILLAGE OF AXMOUTH
The village is near the mouth of the River Axe, and is about one mile inland, on the east bank of the Axe estuary. The Axmouth Parish extends along the estuary to the sea, and a significant distance to the east. The village is over 1,100 years old. In the will of King Alfred the Great, who died in 899 AD, Axmouth was left to his youngest son Aethelweard. According to Historic England, 'Axmouth was ranked as a major port by the mid-14th century and accounted for 15% of the country's shipping trade'. The remains of a late medieval fishing boat can be seen at low tide in the River Axe, just south-west of the village.

Jun 6, 1841 Census, at the age of 12, Eleizer was a Tailor Apprentice in Colyton, Devon, England where he lived with the tailor's family (Samuel and Sarah Bagwell) for seven years.

Apr 16, 1850, at the age of 21, he married Sarah Stimpson in the small village of Leamington Priors in Warwick, England. It is now known as the town of Leamington Spa. After the marriage they soon thereafter moved to London.

LONDON
Dec 31, 1850, their first child Charles Albert Stimpson Griffin was born in the front room of the third story apartment overlooking a broad thoroughfare named High Street in Camden Town, which was near one of the beautiful sections of the city, Regents Park and Primrose Hill.

Mar 30, 1851 Census, they were living at 71 High Street, London, Camden, England. His occupation might be 'French Cleaner' which is now called a 'French Polisher', one who cleans and restores wooden furniture. Their 3-month old son Charles Griffin is with them.

1851, Eleizer sent books to his younger brother Albert Griffin in Australia. One was a copy of the British Millennial Harbinger. Eleazer was a member St. Pancras Church of Christ in London. The reading of this material persuaded Albert that a special manifestation of the Holy Spirit was not necessary as proof of salvation.

Aug 2, 1852, their son Alphonse Eleizer Thomas Griffin was born in the apartment on High Street in London.

Dec 23, 1852, his father James passed away in Colyford, Devon, England at the age of 55 from consumption (tuberculosis).
