DR. GOODWIN BITTER TOWARD PROSECUTOR

In Last Message Physician Indicted in Land Fraud Cases Makes Statement Regarding Lawler and Becker

The funeral services for Dr. David M. Goodwin, who died at his apartments at 639 South Grand avenue Monday, will be held at 2 o'clock this afternoon at the Scottish Rite cathedral on Hope street. Interment will be in Rosedale cemetery.

Dr. Goodwin was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic, the Loyal Legion and the Southern California Homeopathic Medical association, as well as the Scottish Rite Masonic bodies. He came to Los Angeles in 1900 and had considerable business interests here. Mrs. J. M. Bateman, his daughter, is a resident of Massachusetts.

When Dr. Goodwin felt that he would die he dictated the following statement regarding his indictment for an alleged conspiracy to defraud the government by timber land frauds in Oregon:

"Tell the world that I am innocent of the crime with which the government of my country, for which I fought, charges me. And tell Oscar Lawler and Attorney Becker that if they have gained the advancement and publicity they sought they are welcome."

Mrs. Goodwin, who was married to Dr. Goodwin two days before his death, will continue to make Los Angeles her home.
