Mrs. Gibson was born Sept. 12, 1921 in Shawnee, Ok. to Ottis Franklin & Ila Needham Gann. She moved to Healdton in 1923 where her parents started the Ottis Gann Motor Co. She was active in band, drama, school activities and the Epworth League, graduating from Healdton H.S. in 1939. She attended the University of Oklahoma where she played in the OU Band and majored in business. During the war, she worked as a civilian for the South Navy Base in Norman and later for the construction company expanding the base. After the war, she joined Magnolia Oil Co.
During her days as a student at OU, she met Harold P. Gibson. They were united in holy matrimony on Sept. 20, 1947. She joined Harold in Elmore City where he worked at the First State Bank. She supported him in his work and worked along side him in much of their farming. In 1952, they welcomed their daughter, Glenna Gay into the world. Mrs. Gibson was busy during the upcoming years serving as a Sunday school teacher, homeroom mom and friend to many young people, and as a homemaker and bookkeeper. In 1967, she returned to the world of work as assistant cashier of First State Bank of Elmore City. She later worked as cashier before assuming the responsibility of president. She then provided the leadership to complete 80 years of community banking under Gibson family ownership. She continued her interests in farming and served on the Board of Directors of the First State Bank at the time of her death. Mrs. Gibson was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Elmore City and served many years as treasurer of the church and of the Mary Martha Circle.
In past years, she had served as a church trustee and as a Sunday school and Bible school teacher. She was a former member of Eastern Star and the Redbud Garden Club. She was continually interested in and supported youth development programs and was recognized as an Oklahoma Partner in 4-H in 1985. She was always interested in history and travel. She and her family provided the original antique fixtures for the new First State Bank Museum in Elmore City. After retirement, her interest in the world and travels took her to 6 of the 7 continents. Through all her achievements, her primary focus throughout her life was family and friends. She always put others before herself and used her cooking, sewing and creative talents to delight many family members and friends with both gifts and necessities.
Mrs. Gibson was preceded in death by her parents, Ottis & Ila Gann and by her husband, Harold P. Gibson, on July 20, 1982. Mrs. Gibson is survived by her daughter, Glenna Gibson Ott, son-in-law, Sam D. Ott & grandson, Derrick Gibson Ott; 6 aunts, Mildred Bickell, Vetah Chandler, Christine Milstead, Margaret Gann & Vala Gann of Shawnee & Jody Gann of OKC; many cousins, nieces & nephews.
