Nora Aline Higdon, 86, of Cecilia, died Friday July 29, 2011, at her residence. She was a native of Grayson County and a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Louis Higdon; her parents, Joseph and Carrie Higdon; a son-in-law, Dale Vertrees; a great-grandson, Preston Highbaugh; six brothers, Willard, Robert, Virgil, Wayne, George, and Frank Higdon; and two sisters, Pearl Higdon and Lois Alvey. She is survived by her two sons, Gordon Higdon and Calvin Higdon both of Cecilia; five daughters, Marlene Vertrees of Elizabethtown, Ronda (David) Murray of Vine Grove, Carmie (George) Hodge and Regina (Jack) Nance both of Elizabethtown, and Shelia (Steve) Smith of Upton; one brother, Dewey Higdon of IN, sixteen grandchildren, Kristi Miller, Barbara Bryant, Brian Vertrees, Amanda Fields, Jason Vertrees, Kyle Murray, Amy Judge, Sara Murray, Darren, Allen, Pamela, and Andrew Hodge, Jackie Nance III, Glenna Smith, and Steven and Jessica Smith; and thirty great-grandchildren. The funeral will be 11 am EDT Monday at St. Benedict Church in Wax, KY. Burial will follow at St. Benedict Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and continue after 9 a.m. Monday at Brown Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hosparus.
