Helen Vaughan
Born Sept. 28 1912 - Died Oct. 28, 2009
Helen, 97, was born in San Antonio into the Cline family, a large, nurturing, close-knit-kin-folk that remained her central focus all her happy life. Of all her cherished cousins, her closest playmate "Dodo" died less than a week before; they were the last of their generation of Clines to pass on. On Christmas Day 1930, Helen began a 70-year marriage with Ed Vaughan that ended at his death; both died on October 28, 8 years apart. She is survived by her two sons and their wives, Roy & Billie, Jack & Ursula. Her daughters-in-law became her most cherished friends. She was blessed in knowing five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Horses were her other love in life. She bred and trained Arabian horses in a small stable in Sunset Valley, and taught many students properly to sit an English saddle. Even as her memory began to fade she never forgot her horses, or her riders, or her friends, or her family; she left a legacy of love for all who knew her. Over all, Helen had a deep, abiding faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The family is grateful for the people at Park Valley Inn and Lighthouse Hospice who befriended and comforted us, and nurtured Helen in her final years. They know who they are. The family will receive friends 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Saturday, October 31, 2009 at Harrell Funeral Home, Austin, TX. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at San Fernando #III Cemetery, San Antonio, TX.
