Carl Ammon Stevens

Carl Ammon Stevens, age 90, passed away quietly at his home in Vernal, surrounded by his children on Aug. 7, 2011.

Carl was born on Dec. 17, 1920, in Blanding, Utah, to Carl Cannon and Amy Roberts Stevens. He moved to Vernal from Wendover, Nev. in May of this year to be closer to his children.

He was married to Helen Ingram. They later divorced. Carl then married Shirley Doran and later divorced. He was a cattle rancher in Vernal, a dairy farmer in Oregon, and owned and ran a restaurant in New Mexico. He served as a Marine in WWII, learned many languages including Navajo and Spanish.

Carl was very musically talented and could play almost any instrument including piano, guitar, and harmonica. He also loved to play Texas Hold'em.

Carl is survived by his children Carl Stevens and Carol Brewer, of Vernal; step daughter Neva Doran; brother Hubert Stevens, of Phoenix; sisters Bonnie; Marva; and Marge, of Phoenix; Beth Gibson, of Salt Lake City; and Christine, of Oregon; grandsons Aron (Kris) Brewer, and Mark (Karren) Brewer, both of Vernal; and numerous great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and step son Rick Doran.

There will be a memorial service for Carl at a later date entrusted to the care of the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
