Ruth Thien, 67, of Russellville, died Tuesday, August 9, 2011, at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center.

She was born December 3, 1943, at Russellville, to Jack and Clara Elizabeth New Madison. She had retired after working for 22 years as an accountant for Zella Harrell at Transco Leasing Inc., was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary for 23 years, a member of the Military Order of the Cooties Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary, the 8 and 40, and the Red Hat Society. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jack Madison, Jr.; and two great-grandchildren.

Survivors include a son, Robert "Bobby" Thien Jr., and his wife, Tammie, of Russellville; a daughter, Cathy Abel of Russellville; two sisters, Dorothy Mae Walker and her husband, Tommy, of Russellville, and Sharron Kay Hill of Glendale, California; 13 grandchildren, Amanda Matthews, Ricky Don Newell, Kevin Abel, Crystal Howell and her husband, Billy, Ashley James, Robert Thien III, Randy Newell, Violet Abel, Heather Thien, Meagan Thien, Jack Abel, Joshua Thien and Bobby Lee Hyatt; and 24 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted by Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 12, 2011, at the Shinn Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Wayne Bookout. Burial in Booger Hollow Cemetery near Dover will be private.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Chapel.
