He debuted in 1914, wining two games and losing two games in his rookie year. Although he appeared in 16 games for the National League Pennant winning Phillies in 1915, he never could quite catch on with the team. He pitched in one game in the 1916 season, and did not return to the Phillies again until 1921, and was released on 1922. Joining the Athletics in 1924, he would have his only two seasons as a full time player with them, going 13-6 in 1924 and 6-3 in 1925. In 1926 he pitched in 10 games, then was out of baseball. His career totals were 26 wins-21 losses, 143 games pitched, 7 saves, 129 strikeouts and a career 3.70 earned run average. After his playing career was over he was a Philadelphia sportswriter for 20 years.
