Educator. He was the benefactor of what would become Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Harvard students erected the present monument in 1828, as his original stone had been lost. He is commemorated in England with the Harvard Memorial Chapel in Southwark Cathedral, Southwark, London, and with a memorial window for him in the chapel of Emmanuel College in Cambridge.
