Étienne de Cornier
Birth: Sep. 6, 1721
Death: Oct. 4, 1759

French officer and hero of the Seven Years War in America. Knight of the Royal and Military Order of Saint-Louis. Born on September 6, 1721 in Saint-Hippolyte, in the French region of Languedoc. He gan his military career in June 1740 in volunteer in the Regiment of Blaisois. He was made second lieutenant on April 25, 1741, then ensign on November 28, 1741 and two years later, he was promoted lieutenant March 6, 1743. He became lieutenant of the colonelle on April 8, 1743. He was finally promoted captain of a company of riflemen in the Regiment of Guyenne, on April 11, 1746. On October 4, 1759, he died of the wounds received at the time of the Battle of the Plains of Abraham. He is buried in the cemetery of the General Hospital of Quebec from which a part, called "Cemetery of the Heroes", became in 2001 the Memorial of the Seven Years War.  (bio by: Guy Gagnon)
