US Congressman. As a local businessman, he was manager of the Boston Chair Manufacturing Company and the Leominster Rattan Works of Boston. He also was a member of the Democratic State central committee and member of the Massachusetts State House of Representatives in 1875. In 1891, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-second Congress, serving until 1893. While in Congress he served on the Committee on Pacific Railroads and on the Select Committee for Irrigation of Arid Lands in the United States. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he retired from politics, also from business pursuits and lived a private life until his death at age 64.
