James H. Craig departed this life at his home on South Ninth and Doane streets, Beatrice, Nebraska, December 26, 1909, after a confinement of two years to his bed from a stroke of paralysis, aged seventy-six years.
Mr. Craig was a lineal descendant of Daniel Boone of Kentucky, being a grandson of Col. Nathan Boone.
He was born on Christmas day, 1833, at the home of his grandfather, Nathan Boone at Ash Grove, Green county, Mo., his mother having come there to live during the Black Hawk war, his father then being a captain in the Black Hawk war.
He was married at Mt. Carrol, Ill., February 19, 1861, to Mary Ann Tridel. Five children were born to this union, all of whom, with the mother, have passed away.
On December 23, 1891, he was married in this city to Margaret Lavina Hall, whose birthplace was Baltimore, Md.
Mr. Craig was a devoted husband, and his wife was a most devoted helpmate during his protracted helplessness of two years of suffering.
He became a member of the Christian church fifteen years ago, and has been a patient sufferer during the long illness.
Mr. Craig was a miller by trade, but as age advanced was compelled to change his occupation. Prior to his breakdown three years before his death he was employed in the Dempster mills for eleven years.
The funeral will be held today at 10 o'clock from the family home. Rev. J.E. Davis will officiate. Interment in Evergreen Home cemetery.
