Mattie Lou White Hood of Oneonta, AL passed away at her residence on September 11, 2012 at the age of 92. Mrs. Pat, as she was affectingly known, was preceded in death her beloved husband of 45 years, Cordell Cleveland Hood. She was also predeceased by her parents, Clifford and Zelma Wood White, 4 brothers, 3 sisters and special nephew, Tommy White Hood. Mrs. Pat is survived by her only child, Barbara Jane Hood and by her special "son", Randall G. Smith. Other survivors include brother and sister-in-law, Melvyn and Kathryn White; sister, Shirley White Dailey; special caregivers, Betty Hendrix, Sharon Murphree, Kaitlin Murphree, and Deana Robertson; and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. The remainder of Mrs. Pat's special chosen family include Brad, Bethany, Monet, Bryant, Brantley and Rylan Staats and Nathan Smith. Mrs. Hood was a devoted member of Centre United Methodist Church for many years. She was also a member of The Eastern Star. Mrs. Hood along with her husband, Cordell, were members of The Susan Moore High School Booster Club and PTA for well over 20 years. Mrs. Hood served her country during World War II by manufacturing bombs and shells in a munitions plant located in Talladega, Alabama. A loving wife and mother, Mrs. Hood was adored for her kind, sweet spirit and her love of the Lord. She will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, September 14, 2012 at 3PM from Centre United Methodist Church with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Mrs. Hood will lie in state at the church on Friday from 1PM until funeral time. Pallbearers: Danny Hood, Albert Drake, Nathan Smith, Donny White, Dale Lanier and Stetson Murphree.
