U.S. Congressman. After completing preparatory studies, he studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1805 and began a lifelong practice of the law at Georgetown, Delaware. He began his political career as a member of the Delaware State House of Representatives (1803-07) and was a member of the Delaware State Senate, (1808-10). In 1810, he was elected as a Federalist to the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Congresses, serving until 1817. After his term, he retired from politics, but continued the practice of law until his death at age 65. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
