US Congressman. Served in the United States Army during the War of 1812. Elected to represent Maryland's 2nd District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1815 to 1819. Also served as a Member of the Virginia State House of Delegates from 1798 to 1799, Member of the Maryland State House of Delegates from 1808 to 1813, Speaker of the Maryland State House of Delegates from 1812 to 1813, Presidential Elector from Maryland in 1824, and Member of the Maryland State Senate from 1826 to 1830.
