US Congressman. He was born in Milton, Massachusetts, to Robert Vose Jr. and Miriam Vose and the family moved to New Hampshire and settled near Walpole, Cheshire County, New Hampshire in 1766. He was educated in local common schools and then attended and graduated from the distinguished Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1790. Following his education, he then studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1793, before commencing his practice of law in Walpole, New Hampshire. On January 14, 1801, he married Rebecca Bellows and the couple would have five children (Frederick was born in 1801, Sophia was born in 1803, William was born in 1805, Rebecca was born in 1807, and Katharine was born in 1809). He then served as a Member of the New Hampshire State Senate in 1809, 1810, and again in 1812. He then decided to run for a seat in the United States Congress and was elected. A Federalist, he then served New Hampshire as At-Large (Thirteenth and Fourteenth Congresses) in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1813 to 1817. After his term in the United States Congress expired on March 3, 1817, he was succeeded in office by United States Representative Salma Hale. He lastly served as a Member of the New Hampshire State House of Representatives in 1818, as a Common Pleas Court Judge in New Hampshire from 1818 to 1820, and as Chief Justice of the Court of Sessions from 1820 to 1825. He then retired from public service and resumed his practice of law until his death. He passed away in Walpole, New Hampshire, on October 26, 1841, at the age of 78, and was buried in the Village Cemetery in that city.
