28, 1928, he was the son of the late Jacova Kirk and Clyde Bartlett.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ray "Sonny" Morrison and Anzle Bartlett, a sister, Rathyl Bartlett, and a nephew, William Robert Pendleton.
Mr. Bartlett is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Beverly; nieces, Shannon Erickson (Randy) and Ann Pendleton Head; a nephew, Dane Morrison (Diane), a great-niece, Emily Kirk Erickson; great-nephews, Bradley Charles Erickson, Nathaniel Morrison, Andrew Morrison, Gene Head (Robby), Darien Head (Barbara), Robert Pendleton (Chantelle), and Thomas Graham Pendleton; great-great nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
Dane was a faithful member of Buena Vista Baptist Church for 71 years, the Lamplighters Sunday School Class, a former member of the church choir, a scout leader and over the years, served the church in many ways. He loved his church and was comforted by the great love and strength given to him during his illness. Mr. Bartlett was a graduate of Owensboro High School where he enjoyed playing football and singing in the chorus. He was retired from Texas Gas Transmission Corporation where he worked for 39 years. Dane was a past president of the Optimist Club, member of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America, a Junior Achievement Advisor, past YMCA Boardmember and past member of the Campbell Club. He was also a past member of the Owensboro Country Club where he loved to swim and play golf , although he often said his handicap was his game. Mr. Bartlett also was an avid participant in YMCA sports and won many awards for squash, racquetball, and handball. Mr. Bartlett loved children and enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews, friends' children and the children of the church. He was sometimes called the Pied Piper because his family and friends' children often followed him to see what adventures and fun he would dream up next. Dane will be long remembered for his hearty laugh, his gift of story telling, and his beautiful smile. "Good night sweet Prince."
Services are 12 noon on Thursday with Rev. Franklin Skaggs officiating followed by burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Published in The Courier-Journal on August 23, 2011.
