LEXINGTON – Our Beloved mother, Vally Virginia Lucas was called home to live eternally with our Lord on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at Abbott's Creek Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on October 2, 1926 in Guilford County to Sears Jackson Byrd and Bessie Mitchell Byrd. She was a member of the Uwharrie Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Robert Lucas on December 10, 2004.

She is survived by her sons, Ray Higgins and Dale Marsh; daughters, Elise Higgins and Christine Johnson; brothers, John Byrd, Dee Byrd, Bobby Byrd, and Doug Byrd; and her loving and precious grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren: Kim, Kelly, Tara Dawn, Jennifer, Jason, Connie, Brian, Tammy, Melissa, Monica, Ethan, Neely, Joe, Chelsea, Allie, Peyton, Jonathan, Dawson, Noah, Bo-Trevor, Mitchell, Olivia, Ashton, Seth, Cameron, Mike, Synthia, TJ, David, Mikey, Keith, and Skylar.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 1 p.m. at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with Rev. Stephen L. Marine officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home on Monday from 6-8 p.m. Her sons and daughters wish to thank Abbott's Creek Care & Rehabilitation Center of Lexington for their dedicated service and care to their mother in which she thought of them as family.
