Rulon S. Wilcox, 91, of Archer, a longtime farmer and cattleman, died December 6, 1993, at his home of natural causes.

He was born Aug. 1, 1902, at Antimony, Utah, to David Oswell and Frances Melissa McCullough Wilcox. In 1904, the family moved to Fairview, and in 1910 to Archer. In his youth, he and his brother, Mel, were chore-boys for the community of sick people during the flu empidemic of 1918. He attended schools in Archer and Sunnydell, and high school at Ricks Academy in Rexburg.

On Feb. 26, 1947, he married Bessie Louisa Williams in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple, and they made their home in Archer. He engaged in irrigated and dry farming on the Rexburg bench, and raised registered Shorthorn cattle in the Bone area. He was honored as Cattleman of the Year in 1975.

As an active member of the LDS Church, he served in the Mutual and Sunday School presidencies and in gathering funds for building the Archer Church. He also helped in many community projects when neighbors needed help. He was fond of good saddle horses and draft horses. His hobbies were collecting antique tools, and collecting and showing pictures of horse-drawn and other early machinery.

He was prededed in death by 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the Archer-Sunnydell LDS Church with Bishop LaMar Wilcox of the Sunnydell LDS Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg, and Friday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Sutton Cemetery in Archer.
