Composer. He was a late 19th century Spanish composer, and co-founder of the Spanish Society of Authors and Publishers. He is best-remembered for his Zarzuelas such as "La Revoltosa," "El Rey que Rabió," and "La Tempestad. His musical talent was recognized early as he was playing in the Municipal Band at age nine. He received his musical training in his hometown until he was age sixteen, when he relocated to Madrid. At first, he played the cornet for various theatre orchestras. His first performed piece was "Madrid Abel y Caín" for the Teatro Circe de Price, yet the piece was lost in time. He received the First Prize in composition in 1872. He began to be a prolific composer of symphonic, band, choral and chamber works, as well as zarzuelas and operas.
