U.S. Congressman. He attended Granville Academy, graduated from Union College, in 1818, studied law, was admitted and practiced law moderately in Saratoga County, New York. He was a member of the New York State Assembly, (1833-37) and in 1843, he was elected as a Whig to the Twenty-eighth Congress, serving until 1845. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he retired from public life and was affiliated with the Republican Party for many years.
