Professional Hockey Player. For sixteen seasons (1993 to 2004, 2005 to 2010), he played at the center and left-wing positions in the National Hockey League with the Ottawa Senators, St. Louis Blues, Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota Wild and Vancouver Canucks. Born in Dubnica, Czechoslovakia, he began his hockey career with the Dukla Trencin of the Czechoslovakian league and was Ottawa's 9th choice (227 overall pick) during the 1993 NHL Entry Draft. He marked his league debut during the 1993-1994 season with Ottawa and appeared in 12 games. In the course of his career, Demitra produced eleven 20-or-better goal seasons, earning the Lady Byng Trophy in 2000. In 847 regular season games, he amassed 304 goals with 464 assists and achieved NHL All-Star status three-times (1999, 2000 and 2002). He perished in a plane crash in Russia which also claimed the lives of several other former NHL players.
