Clair Enon Beckett, 63, Crab Orchard, died at 4:45 p.m. Thursday in a local hospital. A resident of Raleigh County for the past 42 years, he was born at Cashmere on Nov. 19, 1897, a son of the late George and Gertrude Basham Beckett. He was last employed by the Winding Gulf Coal Co., Crab Orchard. A member of the Crab Orchard Baptist Church, he served several terms as deacon of the church, and was a member of the men's Bible class. Survivors: wife, Moda Meadows Beckett; sons, Raymond, Mason, Wesley and Bill, all of Crab Orchard; Edward, Augusta GA, Jimmie and Dempsey, both at home; daughters, Gertrude and Jo Ann, both at home; brothers, Ira C., Mabscott; Bob and Ray, both of Athens; Basil, Princeton; Earl, Rich Creek VA, and Virgil, Pittsburgh PA; sisters, Mrs. Gilmer Sweeney, Ghent; Mrs. Marrell Stanley, Princeton, and Mrs. Ben Wiley, Athens; 12 grandchildren.
