U.S. Congressman. He was a lawyer in private practice when elected District Attorney of Broome County, New York. In 1847, he was elected as a Democrat to the Thirtieth Congress, serving until 1849. After his term, he resumed the practice of law and was a supply supervisor for the United States Navy during the Civil War.
