U.S. Congressman. Moving to Kentucky in 1823, he studied law, graduated from the Lexington Law School in 1831, was admitted to the bar in 1833 and proceeded to practice law in Franklin, Kentucky. He was a member of the Kentucky State House of Representatives, (1841-42) and elected as a Democrat to the Thirtieth Congress, serving (1847-49). After his term, he was appointed by President Buchanan Minister to Guatemala, in 1858 and was also accredited to Honduras, serving until his death at age 51.
