U.S. Congressman. Successful in mercantile pursuits, he also was the proprietor of Union Hotel in Saratoga Springs, New York. He was Saratoga County Sheriff, (1853-56, 62-65) and supervisor of Saratoga Springs, (1858, 60, 66-67). In 1873, he was elected as a Republican to the Forty-third and Forty-fourth Congresses, serving until 1877. After leaving Congress, he engaged in the mineral-water business, until his death.
